Fish McBites Coming to McDonald's [Report]

Earlier we mentioned that, like clockwork, the fast food fish offerings have begun to surface.  We've seen it all before, generic fish sandwiches with less inspiration than the latest NBC Cop Drama.  Well this year, we've been completely blindsided by the wacky new offering being introduced by McDonalds:  The Fish McBites.

What makes this gimmick so special is that it's a permutation of a gimmick--a double gimmick if you will.  It was not long ago that McDonald's introduced and we subsequently reviewed the Chicken McBites.  A new snack/meal/catering option branching out from the standard chicken McNuggets.  McDonald's is teaching their fast food brethren a thing or two about the business.  Instead resting on their laurels, McDonald's has gone out and released another new menu item.

Unfortunately these puppies are in a very narrow test market and my guess is that they likely will not see a nationwide release this year.  Our friends at the great Grub Grade blog have identified that these are currently being sold (and given away until thursday) in Fort Worth, Texas.  My bet is that its fairly hard to test market items like this during any other part of the year, so perhaps they are "testing the waters" and maybe we will see these guys nationwide next Lenten season.

Like their chicken counterparts, these wil come in snack, regular, and shareable sizes.  If we hear news of a wider release, or if we get our hands on some, we will be sure to have a review ASAP.  Check back here for more.  Let us know in the comments section if these are available in your area.

In related news, it seems as though McDonalds will also be rolling out the 2 for $4 Filet-O-Fish starting tomorrow, and this year you will be able to get a Double Filet-o-Fish.

Edit: We contacted a spokesperson from McDonalds regarding the nutrition information for the Fish McBites.  They have provided us with the following statistics:

Atlanta and they are delicious but I cant find any nutrition facts on them--even on the McDonald's website

They are available in the Marietta, GA area and they are quite tasty. However, I'm trying to find out if the batter that they use on the Mcbites contains any egg.

Are the Fish McBites still being tested or are they available everywhere now? I'm in metro Atlanta also and love these things!

Thanks for the nutritional facts on Fish McBites. Fish McBites and a side salad made a great lunch. Hope McDonalds keeps them on the menu. Very good alternative to a burger or chicken.

Another Atlantan here... These have been out for about a month here... I thought they'd be a healthy snack, so I've been stopping by to pick up a regular or snack size once every other week, so I thought I'd better check the nutritional info. Thank you FastFoodGeek for tracking down the information you provided here! I'm a bit disappointed to see the snack & regular sizes have 100 - 140 calories from fat tho. :-(

They are quite good and the regular and snack sizes never seem to contain enough... definitely add side salad to help yourself feel full if you order these!

Fish Nuggets - I wonder what they'll come up with next. Pork bites perhaps? Or maybe turkey?

I thought it was origional and they were tasty for fast food. I didn't know the fat content wad so high. Hope they come back to stay and stick around always. February 5 2013

We have them in northern Wisconsin and my 12 year old and I love them. It was a great idea to have $1 snack size avail. for 3 days at beginning of lent. Love they are low carb. Hope they keep on menu all the time.

available in the suburbs outside Seattle, WA. Love them, and seeing pieces of flakey fish instead of some ground up fish-flavored mystery product. Not as not-fresh, fishy-smelling as some filet-o-fish I've had, but I've only had these twice. Hope they stay around though hearing a lot of negative reviews for them elsewhere. :( Also like the clever little boxes.

WARNING: May contain fish...don't be fooled. Look at the sodium content. It's Fast Food people!
